I love to read, I really do. But even I have to face it sometimes- sometimes books can be long, fat, and all around BORING! So, the big question is: how the heck do you get through those monsters?
Well, if a book is really boring you probably should just stop. All reading a boring book does to you is stem a hate of reading. You also will probably end up procrastinating on reading your large, big, boring book, and you'll just stop reading. And one thing you don't want to do is stop reading.
Some boring books, however, we can't stop. Maybe you're reading a book for an English assignment, or to appease somebody. You can't exactly stop reading if your book is really boring. That's when you just have to read the book, get it over with, and never look at it again. I know for a fact that the day I finished War and Peace I flung it over my shoulder somewhere into my room, and to this day I can't find it.
At the end of the day, if you really have to read a book, and you hate it, just read it and get it over with. There's no point in procrastinating. Just read it! Sometimes, the best thing to do is just to suck it up and get it over with. Maybe you should just lock yourself up in a room for ten hours and not let yourself out until you finish the book. It just might be the right choice for you.
One way I get through long boring books is through figuring out how long I'll take to read a book. It's pretty simple- I did it with Divergent once. Here's how:
1- Go to http://www.readingsoft.com/. Find out how fast you read. (For instance, I read approximately 1,000 wpm)
2- Find out how many words are in the gigantic book you're reading (Example: War and Peace= 500,000 words)
3- Do the math! (500,000 divided by 1,000 = 500. It would take me 500 minutes, or 8 hours and twenty minutes, to read War and Peace)
See! Simple. You can do that with any book. After figuring out how long it should take you to read a book, you can set aside time each day for a fraction of that allotted time.
After these tips, maybe you can get it in you to finish the book that's been lying on your bedside table for who-knows-how-long!
